Connecting Indonesia's Wildlife Rescue Centers

Do You Know?

Indonesia has approximately 40 facilities dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, reintroduction, and sanctuary management, representing the largest concentration of such facilities in Asia. These institutions play a critical role in responding to wildlife trafficking, human–wildlife conflict, habitat loss, and the rescue and recovery of protected species.
Building collaboration, sharing knowledge, and strengthening wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers across Indonesia.

The Indonesian Wildlife Rescue Alliance (IWRA) is a collaborative alliance that brings together wildlife sanctuaries and rescue centers across Indonesia to strengthen wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and welfare efforts. IWRA was established in response to the growing need for better coordination among organizations working in wildlife conservation.
The alliance provides a platform for members to share knowledge and best practices, strengthen institutional and staff capacity, improve coordination in the management of rescued and confiscated wildlife, and foster stronger collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders.
Through an inclusive and partnership-based approach, IWRA aims to enhance the role of wildlife rescue centers in conserving Indonesia’s rich biodiversity and addressing the increasing challenges facing wildlife today and in the future.
